| dc.description.abstract | Purpose: The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of medication adherence on psychosocial adjustment to body weight, image, and self-esteem in patients with schizophrenia. Design and methods: This cross-sectional and correlational study consisted of 154 patients with schizophrenia registered in a Community Mental Health Center. Findings: The patients had moderate psychosocial adjustment to body weight, image, and self-esteem, and 56.5% had poor medication adherence. There was a significant positive correlation between participants' medication adherence and psychosocial adjustment to body weight, image, and self-esteem. Practice implications: Psychiatric nurses should support patients regarding medication adherence, and psychosocial adjustment to body weight, image, and self-esteem.
