Özet
This study was prepared to investigate the representation and localization skills of 6 th, 7th and 8 th grades of elementary school students. The research was carried out with 198 students who were attending to six elementary schools in Aksaray in Turkey. Schools are located in various residential areas (three schools in the city centre, two in towns, and one in a village). The study was constructed according to quantitative research method and used drawing method as measurement tools. Measurement tools developed by Adem Ocal (2007) were used in this study. To determine the location knowledge three types of activities were performed with students. The gathered data was analyzed with SPSS 17.0 and interpreted according to qualitative research methods. Important findings related to children's representation and localization of space was reached. Students' representation points about close environment are higher than more distant places and countries. According to the findings, it is seen that students have more knowledge about distant places than familiar environments and are successful on locating distant countries. An important relationship between some variables and the research subjects was found in regard to elementary school students.
