Surveillance, which is a social control mechanism, occupies an important place in social structure. It carries on by taking new forms in line with changes and transformations in the society. Modernism is the breaking point for surveillance, because systematic surveillance activities had started in restricted areas with modernism. The purpose of these activities is to discipline certain disruptive segments in the society. Systematic surveillance had spread throughout the whole community thanks to technical developments and widespread use of mass media. Now the purpose is to control the whole society. To this end, it has been examined how individuals tend to make choices freely and how they are subjected to surveillance unawares.
