Balıkesir ve çevresinin tarihsel depremleri (1850-1900)

Birinci derecede deprem kuşağında yer alan Balıkesir ve çevresi, günümüzde olduğu gibi daha önceki dönemlerde de, çok sayıda depreme maruz kalmıştır. Dönemin arşiv belgeleri ve gazetelerinden elde edilen bilgiler ışığında bölgede XIX. yüzyılın ikinci yarısında 34 defa ana sarsıntının yaşandığı tespit edilebilmiştir. Bunlardan bir kısmı çok şiddetli derecede yaşanmış olup, can kayıplarına ve büyük miktarda hasarların oluşmasına yol açmıştır. Yıkıma sebep olan depremlerin ardından sergilenen afet yönetimi, depremzedelerin yaralarının sarılması açısından büyük önem arz etmiştir. Bu makale çalışması ile hem Balıkesir tarihi hem de Osmanlı doğal afetler tarihi literatürüne katkı sağlanması hedeflenmektedir. Ayrıca birinci el kaynaklardan yararlanılarak tespit edilen tarihsel depremlere dair sayısal veriler, bölgenin depremselliği açısından önem arz etmekte olup, deprem bilimciler için kaynak teşkil etmesi umulmaktadır.

Balıkesir and its environs, which are located in the first degree earthquake zone, have been exposed to many earthquakes in previous periods as they do today. In the light of the information obtained from the archival documents and newspapers of the period, 34 main shake in the second half of the 19th century. Some of these have been very severe and have led to loss of life and large amounts of damage. Disaster management, which was exhibited after the earthquakes that caused destruction, was of great importance in terms of wounding the earthquake victims. The aim of this article is to contribute to the literature of the history of Balıkesir and the history of Ottoman natural disasters. In addition, numerical data on historical earthquakes identified by using first-hand sources are important in terms of seismicity of the region and are expected to be a source for earthquake scientists.
