Özet
Characters in Sebahattin Ali’s Kürk Mantolu Madonna, İçimizdeki Şeytan and Kuyucaklı Yusuf are formed through a will that is not their own. In Kürk Mantolu Madonna this is the will of coinci- dence, in İçimizdeki Şeytan it is the devil that the leading character believes exists within, and in Kuyucaklı Yusuf it is society’s will. In the first two novels the characters abandon themselves to fate because of their weaknesses. In Kuyucaklı Yusuf the character changes in a way described by Milan Kundera as ‘crime and the punishment’. In this novel the character is also in the clutches of a fate he cannot control. Thus, Sabahattin Ali tries to convey the individuals search for self through its surrender to more powerful wills besides its own
