Özet
Bu çalışmanın amacı kimlik stilleri, süreçleri ve statülerinin beş kimlik işlevi ile olan ilişkilerini incelemektir. Çalışmanın katılımcılarını 114 kadın ve 94 erkek olmak üzere toplam 208 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Katılımcıların yaş aralığı 18-22, yaş ortalaması 19.36±0.94 yıldır. Kimlik stillerini belirlemek amacıyla Kimlik Stili Ölçeği, kimlik gelişimi süreçlerini ve kimlik statülerini belirlemek amacıyla Utrecht Kimlik Bağlanma Ölçeği ve son olarak da kimlik işlevlerini belirlemek amacıyla Kimlik İşlevleri Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular kimlik stilleri ve süreçlerinin kimlik işlevleriyle ilişkili olduğunu göstermiştir. Kimlik statüleri açısından sonuçlara bakıldığında başarılı ve ipotekli kimlik statülerinde yer alan bireylerin neredeyse tüm kimlik işlev boyutlarında en yüksek puanlara sahip oldukları, dağınık ve moratoryum kimlik statüsünde yer alan bireylerin ise en düşük puanlara sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Sonuçlar tutarlı ve sürekli bir kimlik duygusunun bireylerin ruh sağlığı için önemli olduğunu göstermiştir. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları ergenler ve beliren yetişkinlerle çalışan ruh sağlığı uzmanlarının olumlu ruh sağlığı özelliklerini artırmak için kimlik gelişimini göz önünde buldurmaları gerektiğini ortaya koymuştur.
The aim of this study is to investigate the relations of identity styles, processes and statuses with five identity functions. The research group consisted of 208 (114 female, 94 male) university students and their ages are between 18-22 years old (mean=19.36±0.94). Identity Style Inventory, Utrecht-Management of Identity Commitments Scale, and Functions of Identity Scale were used to collect data. Results of this study indicated that identity styles and identity development processes are related to functions of identity. Results indicated that individuals in the achievement and early closure statuses reported optimal identity profile whereas individuals in the moratorium and diffusion statuses reported problematic identity profile. Results indicated that coherent and continuous sense of identity is important factor for individuals’ mental health. Results of this study indicated that specialist who worked with adolescents and emerging adulthood should be considering identity development in order to improve positive mental health characteristic.
