dc.description.abstract | Rapid advances have been inevitable in the innovation process today, where the transfer of knowledge to technology is shortened. The way to achieve this progress for countries is to invest in innovation and encourage R&D expenditure. Universities, which are the production centers of science, are the best places to invest in innovation. Companies are needed to transform the academic knowledge emerging in universities that have the necessary infrastructure for innovation into practice and commercialize. Policy makers who are aware of this need, have accelerated the commercialization of academic knowledge by establishing technoparks, strengthening the bond between universities and companies. Technoparks have contributed to regional development by increasing the innovation capacity of the regions. This chapter aims to determine the impact of the number of active technoparks on innovation capacity in regions of Turkey. In accordance with this purpose, the distribution of the number of active technopark between NUTS I and NUTS II regions of Turkey are presented with the aid of the figures. According to the findings, there are significant differences between number of active technoparks in the West and East regions of Turkey. In addition, according to the findings there is a distinction in the number of patent applications between the West and East of Turkey. These differences between regions are similar in number of active technoparks and patent applications. This similarity indicates the relationship between the number of active technoparks and patent applications in the regions. | |
