Abstract
Bu çalışmanın amacı, biyoloji öğretmeni adaylarının çevre okuryazarlığını artırmaya yönelik olarak çevre sağlığı dersinde uygulanan öğrenci merkezli etkinlikler hakkındaki düşüncelerinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2008-2009 öğretim yılının güz döneminde Atatürk Üniversitesi Kazım Karabekir Eğitim Fakültesi Biyoloji Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı birinci sınıfında okuyan ve öğrenci merkezli etkinliklerle öğretim yapılan çevre sağlığı dersini alan 60 biyoloji öğretmeni adayı arasından sistematik örnekleme yoluyla belirlenmiş 6 biyoloji öğretmeni adayı oluşturmaktadır. On hafta süren çalışma süresince çevre sağlığı dersi öğrencilerin aktif oldukları öğrenci merkezli etkinliklerle yürütülmüştür. Uygulamanın sonunda örneklemi oluşturan öğretmen adaylarıyla altı sorudan oluşan görüşme formu kullanılarak görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Görüşme verilerinin analizinde betimsel analiz yaklaşımından yararlanılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarının çevre dersinde uygulanan öğrenci merkezli etkinlikler hakkındaki görüşleri iki tema altında incelenmiştir. Elde edilen bulgular öğretmen adaylarının çevre dersinde uygulanan öğrenci merkezli etkinlikleri faydalı bulduklarını göstermektedir. Öğretmen adaylarına göre sınıfın kalabalık olması ve ders için ayrılan sürenin yetersizliği öğrenci merkezli etkinliklerin uygulanmasını engelleyen en önemli faktörlerdir
The purpose of this study is to determine the thoughts of biology teacher candidates on student centered activities applied in the environmental health course to increase the environmental literacy. The sample of the research is composed of 6 biology teacher candidates who have been identified through systematic sampling among the 60 biology teacher candidates studying in the first grade of Atatürk University Kazim Karabekir Education Faculty Biology Teacher Education Department and in the environmental health course taught by student centered activities in the fall semester of the 2008-2009 academic year. During the ten-week study period, the environmental health course was conducted with student-centered activities in which the students were active. At the end of the practice, the interviews were made using the interview form consisting of six questions with the teacher candidates forming the sample. A descriptive analysis approach was used in analyzing the interview data. Teacher candidates' views on student-centered activities in environmental lesson were examined under two themes. Findings show that teacher candidates find student-centered activities in environmental lesson useful. According to the teacher candidates, the crowded class and the inadequacy of the lesson-time are the most important factors preventing the application of student centered activities.
