Gothic is a movement that shows to the barbarian tribes that devastated the Roman Empire, and its impact felt in many areas from painting, music, cinema to literature in the later periods, along with the construction of large, magnificent, and frightening buildings to show the greatness of God in architecture in the Middle Ages. Unusualbeings, places, and persons represent evil, mysterious events to be solved are considered the main characteristics of gothic literature. That movement, which is commonly involved in world literature, is found in Turkish literature in later periods than in the west. Due to the differences in culture and belief, the Ottoman state's wish to place its westernization efforts on a foundation based on reason and science, the improvement of gothic literature, based on extraordinary elements, is delayed. Selim Nüzhet Gerçek, serializes a novel called Canvermezler Tekkesi, which is adapted from the French writer Claude Farrer, in the İleri newspaper in 1921 under the pseudonym Ahmed Kamil. That novel was published as “The First Turkish Gothic Novel with Latin Letters” in 2020. The work is built on horror, mysterious events and personalities. The events that developed after the hero, who set out on a letter he received from an employee, strayed in an uncanny geography, are covered. Mysterious events begin to happen when Mr. Ali Nail is taken to his cabin by an old and mysterious man. The next chapters of the novel consist of the solution of mysterious events. In this study, Canvermezler Tekkesi will be examined with a text-oriented theoretical method, taking into account the classification that Noel Carroll calls "complex discovery plot" in terms of the environment that shapes the gothic and the specific characteristics of the genre.
