The general stratigraphy of the eastern part of the Tuz Gölü basin was essentially investigated in this study. Lithostratigraphic units croopping out at the eastern part of Koçhisar-Aksaray Fault zone, were deposited during two sedimentation periods. The first period, (the Late Cretaceous), represents a transgressive sequence which was formed due to opening of Tuz Gölü basin. The second sedimentation period took place during Late Paleocene-Oligocene age. Generally marine sediments were deposited during this period. In the Miocene-Pliocene periods, sedimentation of continental units was realized. The Central Anatolian Metamorphics form the basement of the area. Continental clastics which are composed of conglomerate-sandstone-mudstone of Late Cretaceous age (Kızıltepe formation) unconformably overlie the basement. The Asmaboğazı formation is characterized by deposits of shallow marine - shelf environment. These deposits are composed of with rudist bearing sandy limestone-hippurites bearing pebbly sandy limestone and sandstone interbedded shale and, overlie Kızıltepe formation. There is a low angle angular unconformity between these units. Cenozoic sediments (Late Palocene-Eocene units), consist of clastics material of shelf ~ transitional of deep sea environmental. This clastics materials are composed of conglomerate, sandstone, sandstone-silt-stone interbeded with shale-marl and with olistostrom, conglomerate with limestone blocks. This unit is called as the Karapınar formation. It overlies the Asmaboğazı formation with an angular unconformity. The Karapınar formation is unconformably overlain by the Mezgit formation (Late Eocene? - Oligocene age). It is characterized by lagoon and fluvial deposits (composed of evaporatic roles and conglomerate-sandstone-mud-stone). The Koçhisar formation (Miocene), consists of units deposited in fluvial and lacustrine environments. It is composed of conglomerate, sandstone, mudstone and occasionally with gypsium-coal. The Koçhisar formation is unconformably overlain by the Cihanbeyli formation (Mio-Pliocene). It consists of conglomerate-sandstone-mudstone and occasionally tuff alternations. These formations unconformably overlie the Mezgit formation. Same aged Sapmaz formation which is composed of conglomerate, sandstone, mudstone-marl and sandy limestone has lateral i vertical transitional with the Cihanbeyli formation. Quaternary period is characterized by alluviums and depris flow terraces deposits.
