Öğe A general overview on parental emotional socialization behaviors(World Inst Advanced Research & Science, 2013) Kılıç Şükran; Pracana, C; Silva, LDenham, Mitchell-Copeland, Stranderberg, Auerbeck & Blair (1997) define that parental behaviors are predictors of emotional and social competences of children, and they state that parents have a substantial role for the socialization of children, as well. Therefore, this study is focused on parental socialization behaviors, and more specifically this study has evaluated the emotional socialization of parents by considering the emotional competence of children, and an explanatory perspective has been tried to be established with other relevant parental characteristics such as parental goals and practices. Upon explaining the parental emotional socialization behaviors, firstly parental styles, basic concepts, affecting the developmental outputs, as well as the relation between a parent and child (Grolnick, Bridges, & Connell, 1998) have been based. On the other hand, when acted the fact that parental emotional socialization refers to more specific emotion-related behaviors of parents rather than general disciplining styles and parental responses (Denham, et al., 1997), it is obvious that more detailed explanation of parents for emotional socialization. Within this framework, emotional socialization behaviors of parents have been defined in detail and emotional socialization processes/mechanisms have been defined based upon the hypotheses in the literature such as modeling, coaching, parent responses and meta-emotion philosophy. In this stage, how parents respond to children's negative emotions is an important pathway to socialize children's emotional competence (Eisenberg, Cumberland, & Spinrad, 1998) is underlined under the title of contingency hypothesis. The reactions of parents for the negative emotions of children are specifically explained within the scope of supporting and non-supporting reactions with samples. In this study, Le Vine's parental model has been considered for explaining how parental socialization aims and applications affect the emotional socialization behaviors and emotional competence. This study ends with stressing out the significance of emotional socialization behaviors of parents with other parental characteristics as well as with the other factors possibly affecting or contributing to the socialization behaviors. Culture a conceptual factor affecting the socialization of parents' emotions (Ka, 2007), complementary behaviors of the family members interns of theory system perspective (Parke & Bruiel, 1998), and within the framework of gender effect and socio-economic level of a family in some certain models have been evaluated in discussion part by considering the emotional competence. In summary, in this study parental socialization behaviors and some relevant themes have been tried to be explained in general concept.Öğe The assessment of web sites related with teaching science and mathematics used by 4th and 5th grade elementary students and their teachers(Academic Conferences Limited, 2009) Şahinkaya, Nihan; Özsoy, Sibel; Özsoy, GökhanInternet is becoming an important reference after its use in most of the schools for educational purposes. Both students and teachers have been using internet to collect information on science and mathematics. However, the presence of so many internet sites related makes the choice of correct site difficult and time consuming. Hence, the questions of "which science and mathematics related sites are most commonly used by teachers and students?" and "which criteria are important for the teachers and students in selecting these web sites?" should be answered. In this context, this study aims at determining and assessing science and mathematics related web sites used by 4th and 5th grade elementary students and their teachers. In order to determine the web sites commonly used by the students, five open ended questions were prepared. Similarly, a data collection tool consisted of five questions were prepared to determine the web sites used by the teachers. During the preparation processes of these data collection tools, the opinions of the experts on those subjects were considered. Additionally, in order to improve comprehension, the data collection instruments were applied to three students and teachers at different schools. Considering their opinion, the tools were revised. The study was conducted in a school located at Turkey. The 33 students at 4th grade from two classes and 28 students at 5th grade from one class and their class teachers (total teacher number three) were selected. In Turkey, class teacher are responsible for teaching science and mathematics at 4th and 5th grades. This is the reason for selecting class teachers for the present study. The students were required to answer five questions related with science in a one-hour science lesson; similarly the same students were required to answer five questions related with mathematics in a one-hour mathematics lesson. The students were also asked for giving information not only about the name of the most commonly used web sites but also some other information about them. Additionally, the teachers were interviewed for one hour and wanted to answer five questions to determine the web sites most commonly used by teachers and the criteria important for teachers in the selection of the sites. After collecting data both from teachers and students, the web sites were ranked and the contents of these sites were examined.Öğe Perceptions of family needs in mothers of children with physical disabilities(Elsevier Science Bv, 2012) Akmeşe, Pelin Pistav; Mutlu, Akmer; Kayhan, Nilay; Baskan, GA; Ozdamli, F; Kanbul, S; Ozcan, DOne of the important factor to the compliance to disability of children is to determine the needs of the children with disabilities and their families. This study was designed to investigate the perceptions of family needs in mothers of children with physical disabilities. The study included 113 mothers of children with physical disabilities. The perception of family needs in mothers was assessed by Assessment of Family Needs-FNS developed by Bailey ve Simenson (1988). The data was evaluated by the Single Relation Variance Analysis, t Test, Scheffe Test and Pearson Correlation Test, using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 18.0) packet programme. Education levels of the mothers showed difference on knowledge needs (F=5.999, p=0.001), support needs (F=3.759, p=0.013) and general needs (F=3.300, p=0.023) dimensions. Meeting the basic needs of the families may increase the quality of life of the mothers who are the active member of rehabilitation process and may also effect the rehabilitation process in a positive way. As visual, auditory, sensory disorders are common in children with CP, these disorders may cause negative factors for language development. For this reason, in addition to physical assessment, developmental assessments should also include detailed assessment of all language and speech functions. Therefore; this study aimed to assess the relation between functional capacity and receptive language development in children with CP by answering to the question: Do the receptive language development affect the functional independence levels in children with CP? The study included 65 children with CP. Language development was assessed by Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test and functional independence by Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM). Receptive language development and subsection of WeeFIM; communication, social perception and total score had significant relation between each other (p<0.05). (C) 2012 Published Elsevier Ltd.
