Abstract
An organization’s reaching its aims and goal is closely associated with organizational commitment and climate of its employees as well as the quality of its human resources. Organizational commitment and organizational climate, which are assessed as a significant premise of productivity and efficiency in organizations, have a significant place in terms of universities where science and universal education take place. Within this context, the purpose of our study is to find out whether organizational commitment and organizational climate of academic staff working in universities differ in terms of demographic characteristics and to present the results of the study for the use of managers in finding out and improving and increasing the organizational commitment and organizational climate of academic staff. A total of 158 academic staff, 45 females and 113 males, from 10 universities chosen with random sampling method among Physical Education and Sport Schools and Sport Sciences Faculties of universities participated in the study. A questionnaire which included three parts was used to collect the data necessary for the study. In the first, demographic information form was given to students to find out socio-demographic features. In the second part, “Organizational Commitment Scale” was used, while “Organizational Climate Scale” was used in the third part. The data obtained were transferred to SPSS for Windows 23.0 program and assessed. One-way ANOVA was used in the comparison of descriptive statistics and in the comparison of averages of more than one independent groups, while t-test was used in variable groups. ANOVA test was used to find out the group or groups that were the source of differences between groups. Analyses results were assessed with 95% confidence interval and “p<0.05” value was considered as statistically significant difference. Statistically significant association was found between term of employment and the university worked in and organizational commitment levels of academic staff who participated in the study. In addition, statistically significant association was found between age and the university worked in and organizational climate (p< 0.05) It is thought that the demands and expectations of the staff at universities, the primary duty of which is to educate qualified individuals, to make scientific thought flourish and to find solutions to the problems of the country and the world, should be taken into consideration and the staff’s organizational commitment and organizational climate levels should be increased.
