Interaction between institutional and professional dimensions of schools experiencing an administrative reform process
    (Inderscience Publishers, 2021) Yıldırım, Kamil
This study investigated the interaction between institutional and personal professional dimensions in schools in a centralised education system that experienced a major reform initiative. Assuming the influence of both dimensions on teachers' behaviours, we tested an integrated causal model. By conducting a predictive-correlational-survey design, the study collected and analysed the data belonged to 346 teachers from primary, lower secondary and upper-secondary schools. The model confirmed the significant prediction of personal professional dimension. The key variable was being cooperativeorientation. The study concluded that succeeding any reform initiative on schools depends on improving teachers' personal professional characteristics.

Adaptation of cultural intelligence scale into Turkish: the validity and reliability study
(Iated-İnt Assoc Technology Education A& Development, 2014) Arastaman, Gökhan; Chova, LG; Martinez, AL; Torres, IC
Cultural intelligence (CQ) has been defined as "a person's capability to adapt effectively to new cultural contexts" (Earley and Ang, 2003). The authors argued that CQ offered a conceptual advancement in the study of cross-cultural transition and adaptation and lent itself to a range of applications, including training and selection for overseas assignments. CQ has subsequently attracted interest and critical commentary from international scholars in social, cross-cultural, and organizational psychology (Konrad, 2006); however, to date there have been few empirical investigations of the emerging construct. The purpose of this study is to adapt 'Cultural Intelligence Survey', originally developed by Ang, Van Dyne, Koh and Ng (2004), into Turkish Culture. Earley and Ang (2003) proposed that CQ has four dimensions: Cognitive, Metacognitive, Motivational, and Behavioral. This structure has been confirmed with domestic student samples in Singapore and the United States (Ang et al., 2004); however, it has not been tested in a different sample from different cultures. Therefore, I am interested in confirming the four-factor structure with a sample of academics actively engaged in the process of cross-cultural adaptation. A total of 212 academics, working in various universities in Turkey in 2013, participated in the study. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was applied to test the construct validity of the scale. Cronbach's Alpha and item-total correlations were also calculated to determine the reliability of the scale. The study supported the proposed four-factor (Cognitive, Meta-cognitive, Motivational, and Behavioral) structure of CQ. Results indicated that the study produced a valid and reliable scale with 20 items under 4 subscale as developed in original form. To my knowledge, this is the first report producing a valid and reliable scale for measuring 'Cultural Intelligence' in Turkish Culture. In this regard, the scale adapted into Turkish in the present study is expected to contribute well to the related literature.

The Interrelation Between Traumatic Life Events and Mental Health in Turkish University Students
(Elsevier, 2011) Güney, Sevgi; Akça, Figen; Şahin, Gülçilem; Bekiroğulları, Z.
The aims of the present study is to examine the relationship between anxiety, trauma perception and mental health. The subjects consisted of 284 university students, aged between 17-28 from the two different universities located in two different cities (Ankara and Aksaray) of Turkey. Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAS) and the Impact of Event Scale-Revised(IES-R) were used. The test battery formed in a mixed way to control the sequence influence in the application process. Then it was given to the participants in their classrooms of the universities. It was found that there are statistically significant relations between the score of the impact of event scale and brief symptom inventory scores. Regardless of what discipline ultimately working we are in, providers in mental health can help the young people who are hurting, and in the influences of some kinds of traumatic life events. The professionals empower the young people's personal growth and can give them psychological support to resolve their hardship through multidisciplinary team. (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd. Assessing Turkish language books used for the first and second echelon in primary education in terms OS principles of creative writing
(2010) Ulaş, A. Halim; Kolaç, Emine; Yaman, Banu; Sevim, Oğuzhan
Learning is a progress beginning with birth, and continuing for a lifetime. Primary education is the most important step where basic knowledge and skills are gained. Sound foundations in this stage will play an important role in one's lifetime achievements. In our age, where everything changes and develops with great speed, individuals; who can adapt to this speed, think, question, criticize, create solutions, always look forward, create multiple points of view, express his/her emotions independently, use his/her language effectively; are needed. There are two dimensions of language; understanding and expression. Speaking and writing is the dimension of expression; listening and reading is the dimension of understanding. Writing is an activity which develops later than reading. For the healthy development of writing skill in the manner our age requires, a versatile support is needed. Curriculum, teacher, family, books, especially the textbooks used in mother tongue lessons have important responsibilities in order to have the student express his/her emotions, thoughts, dreams independently. The reason is that books play an important role in the development of both oral and written expression skills. Are books being prepared in a way to fulfill this important responsibility they undertake? In this descriptive research, the sections and instructions of texts on written expression, included in Turkish Language textbooks (6-8) studied in school in Turkey during 2009-2010 education year. The data of the research have been gathered by document examination method, among qualitative research methods. A total of 638 activities and instructions in Turkish Language textbooks have been reviewed separately; the activities and instructions are evaluated according to our purpose. Direct quotations were taken and interpreted from the examined texts by presenting the findings with frequencies in tables. © 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

The Effects of internal-external locus of control variables on burnout levels of teachers
(Elsevier Science Bv, 2010) Akca, Figen; Yaman, Banu; Uzunboylu, H
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the teachers are internally controlled or externally controlled and investigate if this variable affects their burnout status in terms of their burnout levels and their style of explaining events. The sample of the study consisted of 291 teachers. Rotter's Internal-External Locus of Control Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used as data gathering tools. The analyses concluded that the teachers generally have internal locus of control and they perceive themselves more burnout from the point of insensitivity and emotional burnout.
