    Argümantasyon tabanlı bilim öğrenme yaklaşımı rapor formatının öğretmen adaylarının başarılarına ve fen bilgisi laboratuvarına yönelik tutumlarına etkisi

    Argümantasyon Tabanlı Bilim Öğrenme (ATBÖ) yaklaşımı laboratuvar raporu hazırlamada, geleneksel laboratuvar raporu formatından oldukça farklı bir format ortaya koymaktadır. Yapılan bu çalışmanın amacı ATBÖ yaklaşımına uygun laboratuvar raporu hazırlamanın öğretmen adaylarının başarılarına ve fen bilgisi laboratuvarına yönelik tutumlarına olan etkisini araştırmaktır. Kontrol gruplu ön-son test araştırma modelinin kullanıldığı çalışma ülkemizin Ege Bölgesinde bulunan bir üniversitenin eğitim fakültesinde Fen Bilgisi Öğretmenliği Ana Bilim Dalı üçüncü sınıfına devam eden ve Fen Öğretimi Laboratuvar UygulamalarıI dersini almakta olan 52 öğretmen adayı ile yürütülmüştür. Çalışmaya katılan öğrenciler rastgele olarak deney (1 erkek 25 bayan) ve kontrol (11 erkek 15 bayan) grubu olmak üzere iki gruba ayrılmıştır. Her iki grupta da uygulama ve deneylerin aynı geleneksel öğretim yöntemiyle yürütüldüğü laboratuvar dersinin sonunda deney grubundaki öğrenciler laboratuvar raporlarını ATBÖ rapor formatına göre, kontrol grubundakiler ise geleneksel rapor formatına göre hazırlamışlardır. Çalışma kapsamında laboratuvar dersinde işlenen konular içerisinde yer alan madde-kütle-hacim, özkütle, basit makineler, kuvvet-hareket ve basınç konularıyla ilgili olan beş konuya yer verilmiştir. Öğrencilerin başarılarının belirlenmesinde araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen ve 20 adet açık uçlu sorudan oluşan akademik başarı testi ile Yamak, Kavak, Canbazoğlu-Bilici, Bozkurt ve Peder (2012) tarafından geliştirilen “Fen Bilgisi Laboratuvarına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Çalışma sonunda elde edilen bulgular ATBÖ rapor formatının öğretmen adaylarının akademik başarılarını artırdığını göstermiştir. Bununla birlikte çalışma sonunda öğretmen adaylarının fen bilgisi laboratuvarına yönelik tutumları arasında istatistiksel olarak herhangi bir farklılık olmadığı belirlenmiştir.

    Investigation the effect of preparing powerpoint presentations about science topics on prospective teachers' science achievements and science process skills

    The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of preparing Powerpoint presentations about science topics on prospective teachers' performance on science achievement and science process skills. A total of 79 prospective teachers who were studying to become pre-school teachers at the Kazi{dotless}m Karabekir Education Faculty of Atatürk University in Turkey participated in the study. A mixed research method designed was used in the study. The study was conducted with a quasiexperimental pre-post test design. Participants were randomly assigned in two groups, one control and one experimental groups. There were 31 students in control group and 48 students in experimental group. In experimental group, Powerpoint slides prepared by students were used while the lesson was conducted through the traditional teacher-centered method in control group. Science Ahievement and Cognitive Process Skills tests were administered to students in control and experimental groups before and after the instruction. At the end of the instruction, an open-ended question was asked only to participants in experimental group to learn what they thought about preparing Powerpoint and instruction with these presentations. At the result, it was detected that preparing Powerpoint slides and instruction with these presentation significantly increased prospective teachers' science achievements and cognitive process skills. Students stated that instruction with Powerpoint was very useful for learning but they faced with some problems while preparing and presenting their presentations.

    Prospective Turkish elementary science teachers' knowledge level about the greenhouse effect and their views on environmental education in university

    The fundamental factor of environmental education is teachers who are well-informed about environmental issues. This research aimed to determine prospective Turkish elementary science teachers' knowledge level about causes, consequences and reducing of the greenhouse effect and to investigate the effect of gender, information source and membership in the environmental foundations on their knowledge. We also aimed to learn their views on environmental education given in university. Twenty-six Likert-scale items developed by Cin (2006) were used for data collection. The scale was applied to 215 prospective teachers from two universities in eastern Turkey. Results indicated that the majority of prospective teachers had misunderstandings about causes, consequences and reducing of the greenhouse effect. According to the analysis of demographic variables, there were significant differences in participants' mean scores based on gender and information sources. Additionally, prospective teachers found environmental education inadequate for different reasons.

    The effect of implementation of science writing heuristic on students' achievement and attitudes toward laboratory in introductory physics laboratory

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of implementing the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) approach in the introductory physics laboratory and to learn students' views about the SWH. Such implementation and investigation was conducted on mechanic unit by measuring students' conceptual understanding of subjects and attitudes towards implementation. The study was carried out with 42 freshman students who were admitted to science education department in a university at Eastern Turkey. Results indicated that the SWH approach and the reporting format significantly increased students' mechanic unit achievement, conceptual understanding of the unit and attitudes toward laboratory.     The effect of PowerPoint presentations prepared and presented by prospective teachers on biology achievement and attitudes toward biology

    The study aims to explore the effect of preparing and presenting powerpoint slides on prospective teachers' biology achievement and attitudes toward biology. The sample of the study was 109 freshman students from Pre-School Education Department at Ataturk University in Turkey. The sample was randomly assigned as control group consisted of 53 students and experimental group consisted of 56 students. The experimental group was taught by powerpoint presentations preparing and presenting by prospective teachers while the lesson was conducted through traditional approach in the control group. Results indicated that preparing and presenting powerpoint slides had a significant effect on prospective teachers biology achievement and attitudes towards biology. (c) 2010 Elsevier Ltd.     The use of the internet by pre-service teachers' for educational purposes

    The aim of the research is to investigate why students at the Faculty of Education use the Internet. The sample of the study consisted of 348 students (178 female, 170 male) enrolled in the Faculty of Education at Bayburt University in Turkey. The data was collected using a survey which is consisted of seven questions developed by the researchers. The obtained data was statistically analyzed and responses given by students were calculated as frequency (f) and percent (%) values. The findings indicated that students frequently use the Internet for academic purposes, general subjects and communication. Additionally, it was determined that students use the Internet on average a few times per week both for academic purposes and general subjects. It was found that students mostly downloaded text material from the Internet while they were searching a subject. According to the results of the study students prefer to access Turkish web sites more than English web sites for academic purposes. It is held that students use the Internet more than library while they are searching for academic purposes. Furthermore, it is stated that nearly half of students believed that the Internet services can take the place of the libraries. At the same time, majority of the students believed that the internet improves students' achievement.
