Expanding the equilibrium solubility and dissolution thermodynamics of benzoic acid in aqueous alcoholic mixtures
(Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI), 2022) Akay, Sema; Kayan, Berkant; Peña, M. Ángeles; Jouyban, Abolghasem; Martínez, Fleming; Acree, William E.
The equilibrium solubility of benzoic acid in water and ethanol, as well as in nine {ethanol (1) + water (2)} mixtures, was determined from T = (293.15 to 323.15) K. Benzoic acid mole fraction solubility in these aqueous-ethanolic mixtures was adequately correlated with some well-known correlation/prediction models, obtaining mean percentage deviations of 2.2 to 7.6%. Apparent thermodynamic quantities, namely, Gibbs energy, enthalpy, and entropy, for the dissolution, mixing and solvation processes, were computed by means of the van ’t Hoff and Gibbs equations. The enthalpy–entropy compensation plot of apparent enthalpy vs. apparent Gibbs energy of dissolution was not linear, indicating enthalpy and entropy mechanisms for transfer. Ultimately, by using the inverse Kirkwood–Buff integrals, it is observed that benzoic acid is preferentially solvated by water molecules in water-rich mixtures but preferentially solvated by ethanol molecules in those {ethanol (1) + water (2)} mixtures of 0.24 < x1 < 1.00.
Use of game-based teaching and learning to foster intercultural communication in english language education
(IGI Global, 2022) Çetin Köroğlu, Zeynep; Kimsesiz, Fatma
Games and mobile applications have become an important part of our lives. Games and mobile applications are very useful tools for both students and teachers in learning and teaching cultural values and intercultural communication. Well-designed games and applications can provide different perspectives, develop understanding and empathy of language learners towards differences, provide important contributions to learners in ensuring social justice. This chapter aims to evaluate two different digital games in terms of content, measurement, learning, and teaching. It also offers suggestions on how the analysed games can improve social justice, intercultural communication, and multilingual communication. The usability and effectiveness of the selected games are discussed over the existing literature. In addition, the chapter deals with the role and contributions of game-based applications in the development of intercultural communication.
Handbook of research on bullying in media and beyond
(IGI Global, 2022) Sarı, Gülşah
Bullying has been an issue for generations across fields and industries and can affect children as well as adults. With the rise of social media in recent years, bullying has evolved to include new forms such as cyberbullying and peer bullying. In the past, victims were able to escape their bullies in safe places, such as their homes. Nowadays, with technology keeping society constantly connected, bullies are able to exert their influence at all times. This is taking a far greater mental toll on bullied adults and children leading to burnout in the workplace, stress, anxiety, depression, and more. To understand and develop possible solutions to prevent bullying, further study is required.
New perspective to management, economic growth and debt nexus analysis: Evidence from Indian economy
(Wiley, 2022) Udemba, Edmund Ntom; Bekun, Festus Victor; Kırıkkaleli, Derviş; Sipahi Döngül, Esra
Recently, Indian economic performance has been on a continuous upward trajectory in terms of GDP growth amidst external debt. This study considers in the context of management the measure of maintaining the positive trend of Indian economic growth, taking into account the potentially damaging impact of debt in the near future. To this end, the annual time series frequency data from 1975-2016 is employed for econometrics analysis. The study utilizes the co-integration technique in conjunction with Granger causality tests for causality direction among the variables under consideration in this study. The empirical findings of our study are as follows: debt ratio to GDP has a significant positive relationship with GDP growth and trade openness is significant but exerts a negative relationship with the economic growth of India. Furthermore, FDI has a positive and significant link with the economic growth of India, investment has a positive and significant link with economic growth of India, capital has a positive and significant link with the economic growth of India, and population has a negative and significant link to the economic growth of India. Based on our study findings, we conclude that in the long-run, debt ratio to GDP, FDI, investment, capital, and inflation are all positively related to the economic growth of India, while the likes of trade openness and population have a dampening effect on the economic growth of India.
Hyper-Fibonacci and Hyper-Lucas Hybrinomials
(Mehmet Zeki SARIKAYA, 2022) Mersin, Efruz Özlem; Bahşi, Mustafa
The hybrid numbers which are accepted as a generalization of complex, hyperbolic and dual numbers, have attracted the attention of many researchers recently. In this paper, hyper-Fibonacci and hyper-Lucas hybrinomials are defined. The recurrence relations, generation functions, as well as some algebraic and combinatoric properties are examined for the newly defined hybrinomials.
