Relationship between RT-PCR Threshold Cycle Values and Thorax CT Severity Score in COVID-19 Patients
(Kırşehir Ahi Evran Üniversitesi, 2025) Akıneden, Altan; Çiçek, Cemal; Türkel, Selçuk; Kararmaz, Nimet Büşra; Özkan, Deniz
In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between RT-PCR Cycles Threshold (Ct) values, which provide information about the viral load, and CT severity score (CTSS), which is used to demonstrate lung involvement. Materials and Methods: Between January 1, 2021 and November 30, 2021, a total of 162 patients with lung auscultation findings and/or suspicious findings on posteroanterior chest radiography, along with a positive RT-PCR test, were included in the study. Viral loads, lung involvement, and mortality rates of the cases were analyzed based on the units in which they were hospitalized. Additionally, we investigated the correlation between comorbid diseases associated with COVID-19, CTSS (CT severity score), RT-PCR Ct viral load values, and age. Results: The CTSS showed a positive and significant correlation with age (p=0.017). Statistical analysis revealed no significant correlation between viral load and thoracic involvement (p=0.663). Conclusion: According to the present study, no significant correlation was found between RT-PCR Ct values, which play a crucial role in the diagnosis of COVID-19, and thoracic CT involvement. However, the prevalence of lung involvement and the mortality rate of the cases increased with age. Additionally, a significant correlation was observed between the CT severity score (CT-SS) and age. These findings pave the way for future in-depth research in this field, fostering a better understanding of the subject matter.
Facing sustainable human resources management with the dimension of discourse and action through the lens of organizational hypocrisy
(Beta Basım Yayım Dağıtım A.Ş., 2025) Göç, Kubilayhan; Küskü, Fatma
This study examines Sustainable Human Resource Management with its economic, environmental and social dimensions and evaluates the differences between discourse and action through the lens of organisational hypocrisy. Thus, it seeks to understand whether Sustainable HRM activities are implemented as a result of some obligations or because they are internalized. Data was collected from companies and their employees listed in the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE) Sustainability Index. The discourse is identified through content analysis of 36 sustainability reports, while the action via the responses of 414 employees to a structured questionnaire. The findings suggest that the traditional capitalist approach remains valid and leads to hypocrisy in organizations, even when Sustainable HRM is passively accepted. Businesses in Türkiye still need to fully internalize the Sustainable HRM approach, which suggests the need for stricter regulations rather than voluntary efforts. This research contributes to the literature by addressing Sustainable HRM with its “economy-environment-society” dimensions, responding to the need to understand Sustainable HRM approaches in countries with different contexts, and examining Sustainable HRM within the scope of organizational hypocrisy.
The impact of price-earnings ratio on blue-chip index: an empirical analysis on world stock exchanges
(Kenan ÇELİK, 2025) Bağcı, Haşim
There is high demand for firms with strong performance in the stock markets, leading to elevated prices for these shares. In this context, the study presented examines the impact of the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio on the blue-chip index (BCI) across global stock exchanges. The aim of the study is to identify this effect, elucidate its rationale, and provide a different perspective on the topic. Accordingly, the research encompasses an 8-year period from 2016 to 2023, utilizing a sample of 9 global stock exchanges. The methods employed in the study include descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, F-test, and simple linear regression analysis. The correlation analysis revealed the existence of a weak negative relationship between the P/E ratio and the BCI. The significance of the regression model was tested using the F-test, confirming that the model is significant. Based on the parameter estimates derived from the final regression equation, an increase in the P/E ratio reduces the BCI. The results obtained align with the effects of the P/E ratio emphasized in the literature. Therefore, firms with a low P/E ratio exhibit high performance. The BCI in the sample consists of high-performing, strong, stable, healthy growing, reliable, large, and well-known stocks.
Investigating the effect of artificial intelligence based tools on pre-service mathematics teachers’ concept images
(Kafkas Üniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesi, 2025) Karaca, Hilmi
Artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based tools are becoming increasingly important in mathematics education due to their potential to enrich learning experiences, provide customized solutions, and increase the effectiveness of learning processes. This case study was conducted to examine the impact of AI-based tool experiences on pre-service mathematics teachers' (PMTs) mathematical concept images. As a result of the content analysis, the data were categorized under the themes of component, understanding, and association, and the changes in PMTs' concept images after their ChatGPT experiences were examined according to these themes. Although not always, the ChatGPT experience had an effect on PMTs' mathematical concept images in general. In particular, PMTs mentioned more components that are directly related to mathematical concepts, while associating related concepts with different terms decreased. However, there were partial transformations in the understandings of the concepts. While subjective knowledge of concepts decreased, objective and directly related knowledge increased and unnecessary repetitions decreased. In conclusion, ChatGPT experiences contributed to the development of concept images of PMTs, but this contribution was not at the same level for all concepts.
