Blogger mothers as a transmediatic narration: an examination on transmediatic narration used by blogger mothers
(IGI Global, 2022) Aktan, Ercan
Individuals are facing message bombardments from many tools. In such a process, trying to reach individuals at any moment using different tools is important for the effectiveness of communication. This requirement led to a new process called transmedia. The transmedia storytelling, which is carried out in order to ensure that the messages planned to be transmitted in transmedia are even more effective, is one of the heavy-duty practices of this new process. This study was carried out in order to reveal how blogger mothers used transmedia storytelling practices, the difference of this use from traditional motherhood, and the role of transmedia storytelling practices in changing form of motherhood. In the study, blogger mothers were found to use transmedia storytelling practices heavily in order to influence their followers. It was also concluded that blogger mothers play the roles of heroines, friends, and dynamic and assistant heroines.

Measuring, assessing and evaluating thinking skills in educational settings: a necessity for twenty-first century
(Springer Nature, 2022) Dilekli, Yalçın; Tezci, Erdoğan
The twenty-first century is very different from other centuries as mobilization of the people is very rapid, and the spread of knowledgeKnowledge has reached unbelievable levels, which has caused rapid changes in all disciplinesDiscipline. Under these circumstances, the traditional educational philosophy cannot meet the needs of the twenty-first century. The modern approachApproach advocates that educationEducation should aim to raise thinkingThinking generations. A thinkingThinking generation means that individuals should be competent in terms of analytical, critical, and creativeThinking, creativethinkingThinking, decision-makingDecision-making, andProblemproblem-solvingProblem-solving. The transition from the traditional educational approachApproach to the modern one has resulted in some problemsProblem called barriers in teachingTeachingthinkingThinkingskillsSkill. These barriers can be summed up as attitudes of schools’Schooladministrators, teachersTeacher, and parents. The major reason for this attitude is the difficulty of measuring and assessing these skillsSkill. The skillsSkill cannot be measured and assessed by traditional ways that measure remembering and memorizing. However, 21st-century skillsSkill are higher-order analysis, evaluation, and creation. These skillsSkill are measured and assessed using multiple-choice and open-ended questionsQuestion and performance-based works. Furthermore, the evaluation processProcess is not from a single perspective; instead, it is from multiple perspectives as self-evaluation, peer evaluation, and teacherTeacher evaluation. This chapter focuses on how teachersTeacher can measure and evaluate students’StudentthinkingThinkingskillsSkill by focusing on concrete examples. ThinkingThinkingskillsSkill.

Heterozygous c.1730G >C (p.Trp577Ser) variation in a case with familial hypercholesterolemia
(University of Nis, Faculty of Medicine, 2022) Doğan, Mustafa; Köksal, Mehmet; Eröz, Recep
Introduction: FH is an autosomal dominant disease of lipid metabolism. Hypercholesterolemia, xanthomas, and death from early coronary artery disease (CAD) are common in this disease due to a mutation in the LDLR, Apo-B100 or PCSK9 genes. Case report: A 4-year-old male patient with a very rare heterozygous c.1730G >C (p.Trp577Ser) variation in exon 12 of the low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) gene that causes familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) was reported. As in this case, the heterozygous form may not show any symptoms in the first decade. This variation is region specific. Therefore, region-specific diagnostic criteria should be developed. Conclusion: We aimed to contribute to the literature on the development of diagnostic criteria by discussing the patient's condition with the clinical results.

Molecularly imprinted polymeric carriers for controlled drug release
(Elsevier, 2022) Akgönüllü, Semra; Bakhshpour, Monireh; Topçu, Aykut Arif; Bereli, Nilay; Denizli, Adil
Drug delivery systems are tools responsible for optimization of efficiency, appropriate drug administration, increasing compliance, and minimizing side effects. There is a continuous requirement for improving safer and more efficient methods and tools that can be used for drug release. Among the functional polymer forms, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a unique group used in drug release. MIPs are artificial materials that can mimic enzymes, antibodies, and other biomolecules to separate, recognize, and enrich. They have specific recognition sites, selective adsorption of the template molecule, high affinity through cavities, and robust resistance features. Therefore, MIPs have been broadly utilized in smart sensing, analyte adsorption, and chemical analysis. In this chapter, we first define the main principles and manufacturing steps of MIPs. Second, more information regarding MIP-based polymeric carriers is presented. Finally, a brief evaluation of available MIPs-based controlled drug release system applications and future trends is presented.

Could nucleolin and nucleophosmin levels be prognostic indicators in non-small cell lung cancer
(University of Nis, Faculty of Medicine, 2022) Akın, Gül; Eşbah, Onur; Eröz, Recep
Lung cancer is the leading cause of mortality from cancer across the world. In this study, the use of serum nucleolin (NCL) and nucleophosmin (NPM1) levels as a marker in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment response evaluation in lung cancer was investigated. Materials and Method: NCL and NPM1 levels of serum samples taken before chemotherapy and after 3-4 courses of chemotherapy from the control group and the patients diagnosed with lung cancer were studied using ELISA method. Results: Serum NCL and NPM1 levels of the patients were higher than of the controls (p = 0.085 for NCL, p = 0.000 for NPM1). NCL and NPM1 levels by histopathologic type were significantly higher in adenocarcinoma than in squamous cell carcinoma (p < 0.05 for each). In view of the treatment responses to chemotherapeutic agents, there was a statistically insignificant difference between the values before and after chemotherapy (p > 0.05 for each). Conclusion: High serum NCL and NPM1 levels were found to correlate with poor prognosis, poor treatment response and low survival rate. It can be concluded that serum NCL and NPM1 levels in lung cancer can be used as diagnostic and prognostic markers for the disease. © 2022 Sciendo. All rights reserved. Nucleophosmin
