Sum and weighted sum formulas for fibonacci and lucas quaternions
    (Aksaray Üniversitesi, 2024) Karataş, Adnan
Fibonacci and Lucas quaternions are deeply studied in the literature after its definition by Horadam in 1963. Binet formula, generation function, Cassini, Catalan, Honsberger, and other identities for these sequences studied in different quaternion algebra types like split quaternion algebra, dual quaternion algebra, etc. Additionally, some of the generalizations for Fibonacci and Lucas quaternions are studied like k-Fibonacci quaternions, k-Lucas quaternions, Horadam quaternions, and more. However, despite being researched intensively, the summation formulas or weighted summation formulas for these sequences are not examined thoroughly. In this study, after briefly summarizing the literature, we focused on the summation and the weighted summation formulas for the Fibonacci and the Lucas quaternions. In addition, we provided generalized weighted summation formulas for the Fibonacci and Lucas quaternions. Moreover, we calculated generalized weighted summation formulas for the double coefficient Fibonacci and double coefficient Lucas quaternions which have two Fibonacci and Lucas coefficient in every unit of the quaternion, respectively.

Harnessing the power of ellagic acid: a natural shield against salt stress in wheat and chickpea
    (Aksaray Üniversitesi, 2024) Elbasan, Fevzi
The research investigates how ellagic acid (EA) influences the reduction of salinity stress in wheat and chickpea plants. Salinity is a major challenge for global agriculture as it interferes with vital plant physiological functions, especially photosynthesis, by causing ion imbalances and oxidative damage. This study examines EA, a phenolic compound known for its antioxidant capabilities, and its ability to counteract the detrimental impacts of salt stress. In this experiment, wheat and chickpea plants were grown under controlled conditions and exposed to salinity (100 mM NaCl), both with and without the application of EA (12.5 µM). Various parameters, such as fresh and dry biomass, proline concentration, and gas exchange rates, were recorded. The findings revealed that salt stress drastically lowered both biomass and gas exchange performance in the plants, but the application of EA partially alleviated these negative effects. EA enhanced both fresh and dry weights, minimized electrolyte leakage, and elevated proline levels, particularly in chickpea plants. Additionally, gas exchange parameters, including carbon assimilation (A), stomatal conductance (gs), and transpiration rate (E), improved with the combined EA and salt treatment compared to salt stress alone. The study concludes that EA serves as a protective agent against oxidative damage caused by salinity, enhancing growth parameters and boosting photosynthetic performance. This suggests that EA could be a valuable approach to increasing plant tolerance to salinity in agricultural systems..

Fractional-Order mathematical modeling and stability analysis of tumor-immune system relation including chemotherapy drug effect
(Aksaray Üniversitesi, 2024) Kaya, Esen; Özköse, Fatma; Şenel, Mehmet Tamer
Worldwide, cancer is the second most common cause of death. Chemotherapy is a widely used strategy to tumor treatment that is particularly effective in controlling the growth of cancerous tumors and their size. We created a fractional-order mathematical model that illustrates tumor growth in the presence of chemotherapy to obtain a more profound comprehension of the complexities of chemotherapy mechanisms. This all-inclusive paradigm addresses both the impacts of medication therapy and the immune system's reaction. We demonstrated the positivity and boundedness of the solutions by looking at their existence and uniqueness in order to demonstrate the biological significance of the system. Our approach involves identifying equilibrium points and investigating stability requirements within a range of model parameters in order to characterize the dynamic features of this differential equation model. Additionally, we ran numerical simulations with various parameter values. To illustrate the memory effect of the fractional derivative, we also simulated the system's dynamic behavior for various orders of fractional derivatives. To put it another way, we came to the conclusion that the chemotherapeutic treatment is quite effective on populations and that the memory effect happens when ?, decreases from 1. The purpose of this research is to assist physicians in adopting the appropriate safety measures when diagnosing and treating cancer.

Use of Agave (Agave salmiana) syrup in Kombucha fermentation
(Aksaray Üniversitesi, 2024) Gülhan, Mehmet Fuat
In this study, the potential of using different concentrations of agave syrup (AS) as a substrate in kombucha fermentation was investigated. After adding AS at concentrations of 3% (AS3), 5% (AS5), and 7% (AS7) to kombucha, some physicochemical, antioxidant, and microbiological analyses were conducted, alongside the determination of total phenolic content. The lowest pH value was measured as 3.13±0.13 and 2.91±0.15 in AS7 kombucha after fermentation for 7th and 14th days, respectively. The highest total soluble solids content was determined as 7.81±0.28 °Bx in AS7 kombucha on our 48th. The highest DPPH activity was observed in AS7 after 14 days (71±1.02%), metal chelating activity was highest in AS7 kombucha on day 14th (71.5%), and the total phenolic content was found to be 412±0.81 mg GAE/L and 438±0.89 mg GAE/L in AS7 on days 7th and 14th, respectively. The highest levels of acetic acid, lactic acid, and yeast counts were detected in AS7 on days 7th and 14th. The results showed that agave syrup may be an alternative sugar source to sucrose for kombucha, and polyphenols from agave may contribute to antioxidant capacity. Particularly, consumption between 7th and 14th days is recommended due to the highest functional properties observed during this period.

Determining the attitudes of people who come to an optical store in Eskişehir toward the use of sunglasses
(Aksaray Üniversitesi, 2024) Kuru Mutlu, Hülya; Öz, Zeliha; Ünsal, Alaettin
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun can cause important health problems such as skin cancer, cataracts, eye problems, and suppression of the immune system. UV accumulated in our eyes throughout our lives can cause irreversible damage. Sunglasses are the most important tool in protecting our eyes from UV and helping us see. A survey about sunglasses usage and selection was administered to 311 participants who came to the optical store between 1-30 December 2023. Users were asked about their reasons for using sunglasses, the lens color they prefer, the UV protection information of the sunglasses, the harms of imitation sunglasses, and information about the surfaces that reflect the most UV rays. The obtained data were evaluated in the SPSS statistical program. While users' sunglasses usage status varies significantly according to age (p=0.002) and profession (p=0.000), there is no significant difference according to gender (p>0.005). When the users' knowledge level about sunglasses usage and selection criteria was examined, it was seen that their knowledge level was insufficient. By sharing these results of the study in the literature, it is aimed to increase public awareness on this issue and to raise public awareness by providing training on these issues. It is thought that with the conscious use of sunglasses in this area, there will be a decrease in cataracts, etc., which have an important place in the health and economy.
