Öğe Three-dimensional shear-wave velocity structure of the Adana-Iskenderun basins by ambient noise tomography(Oxford University Press, 2024) Bakırcı, Taciser; Kaşlılar, Ayşe; Kocaoğlu, ArgunWe construct a 3-D shear-wave velocity model for the crustal structure and the geometry of the Adana and Iskenderun basins by using ambient noise tomography of Rayleigh waves. For this purpose, we compute interstation Green's functions and measure the group velocity dispersion in the period range of 8-25 s. Then Rayleigh wave group velocity maps obtained by tomographic inversion are used to derive a shear wave velocity model by linearized inversion. Both Rayleigh wave group velocity maps and the 3-D shear-wave velocity structure are correlated with the geology and the major tectonic features of the region. Cross sections taken from the velocity model suggest a sediment thickness of up to 11 km in the wedge-shaped Adana Basin with the velocity ranging between 2.4 and 2.9 km s-1. The horseshoe-like high velocities surrounding the basin correspond to the Taurus Mountains in the west and north, and the Amanos Mountains in the east. In the region, down to a depth of 35 km the crustal velocity varies between 2.9 and 3.7 km s-1. Our investigations reveal the detailed 3-D basin geometry and crustal structure that can be beneficial for hazard assessment, geodynamic modelling as well as hydrocarbon exploration studies.Öğe Rheological and durability properties of self-compacting concrete produced using marble dust and blast furnace slag(MDPI, 2022) Karakurt, Cenk; Dumangöz, MahmutSelf-compacting concrete (SCC) is a special, highly fluid type of concrete that is produced using chemical additives. It is easier to pour and reduces defects arising from workability. Waste marble dust is generated during the production of marble using different methods, or during the cutting of marble in processing plants; however, the uncontrolled disposal of waste marble dust in nature is associated with some environmental problems. Cement and concrete technology is a field with potential for the utilization of these large amounts of waste. The present study explores the use of marble dust (MD) (an industrial waste generated in abundance around the province of Bilecik) and granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) (another industrial waste product) in the production of SCC. In this study, MD and GBFS are used as fine materials in SCC mixtures, and the rheological and workability properties and other hardened concrete properties of the produced SCC specimens are tested. Additional tests are conducted to identify the durability of the specimens to sulfate attack, as well as their freeze-thaw and abrasion resistance, followed by microstructure tests to identify the effects of MD and GBFS on bond structure. The late-age performances of MD and GBFS were then examined based on the results of the durability tests. The presented results revealed improvements in the fresh and hardened properties of SCC produced using MD and GBFS.Öğe Validation of the green’s functions retrieved from ambient noise by andirin earthquake in the adana basin(Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi, 2020) Bakırcı, TaciserThe vertical component continuous data recorded by the national seismological networks (Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI) of Bosporus University and Earthquake Research Department (ERD) of Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Turkey) in the Adana Basin (Southeastern Turkey) are used to retrieve the Green’s functions between two stations. The noise data were cut into 1-hour segments, scanned for the gaps caused by transmission drop-outs, preprocessed by removing the trend, mean and instrument response, down sampled to 10sps and low-pass filtered at 50s. Then the hourly crosscorrelations are computed and stacked and the Green’s functions between two stations are retrieved. To validate the retrieved Green’s functions, the Andirin earthquake of magnitude 5 occurred on 22.07.2012 near the station Andirin (ANDN) is used. By using the ANDN station as the virtual source, the Green’s functions at KARA, KMRS, KIZK, MERS and YAYL stations are compared with the real earthquake seismograms. The agreement between the earthquake seismograms and the retrieved Green’s functions suggests that the Rayleigh wave group velocities can reliably be estimated for the region by using ambient noise data
