    Environmental performance of accommodation establishments in the protected areas: case of Bolu, Türkiye

    Protected areas in tourism destinations are among the places where sensitivity should be exercised for the tourism sector. Accommodation establishments, particularly in protected areas, are considered in terms of environmental performance. This study aims to reveal the environmental performance levels of accommodation establishments in protected areas. The scale developed by Erdoğan and Tosun (2009) was used for the purpose of evaluating the environmental performance in accommodation establishments. Study data has been collected from business owners and executive directors in accommodation establishments located in protected areas in Bolu province of Türkiye. The data obtained in the study has been analyzed through the AMOS package program. The findings obtained from the study reveal that the environmental performance of accommodation establishments is not sufficient. The performance of the establishments to save energy by using the key card control system in the rooms is at low levels. In particular, the performance of the establishments regarding managerial knowledge on the environmental protection is required to be increased. It is thought that this study will contribute to the literature as it is one of the limited studies dealing with the environmental performance of accommodation establishments located in protected areas.

    Marketing Philosophies in Hospitality Businesses: The Case of Bolu

    With the changes in consumer behavior over time, there have been some developments in marketing philosophies. The main purpose of this research is to reveal the marketing philosophies adopted in accommodation establishments in protected areas. In this context, data has been collected from managers (n=42) responsible for marketing activities of accommodation establishments in Bolu city in Türkiye. In the study, marketing management philosophy (MMP) was measured using the scale developed by Tosun, Okumus and Fyall (2008). In this study, AMOS and SPSS programs were applied to analyse data. The data were evaluated using descriptive statistical methods and comparative tests. The main findings reveal that accommodation establishments mostly adopt manufacturing and product-orientation marketing management philosophies. This study is one of the limited studies revealing the marketing philosophies adopted, especially in accommodation establishments in protected areas and contributes to the relevant literature.

    Specialization of law enforcement for tourism security: the case of Turkish Gendarmerie

    This research was conducted to reveal how the Turkish Gendarmerie should specialize in ensuring the security of touristic destinations. From October 2020 to February 2021, the opinions of 135 participants with high authority in the field of tourism and security were received in five different provinces through an interview form created for this study. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the data. The findings obtained with this analysis were interpreted under seven themes: general security policy, uniform, equipment, awareness, duty, qualification, and training. According to the findings of the research, the Turkish Gendarmerie should serve visibly in touristic destinations with a different security concept. In the light of the findings obtained with this study, various recommendations were presented to practitioners and researchers in tourism and security field.
