Öğe Clinical and radiographic diagnosis of developmental orthopedic disease and bone lesions determined in thoroughbred arabian foals(Dicle Üniversitesi, 2020) Şengöz Şirin, Özlem; Şen, Yusuf; Bumin, Ali; Alkan, Zeki; Özgermen, BaşakThe main objective of the present study was to determine the presence and prevalence of developmental orthopedic diseases and bone lesions, which causes huge economical looses in the purchasing of foals, in Thoroughbred Arabian foals in Tigem Anatolian Farm. The materials for this study were 50 Thoroughbred Arabian foals which were born on the same season. In total 50 foals were evaluated for clinical and radiographic examinations, blood analysis and nutrition for 12 months from birth. In addition, pasture soil and water analyzes were viewed. Variety of bone lesions were observed in 25 of 50 foals that are involved in the study. In foals hindlimb and/or forelimb sesamoiditis, osteochondrosis dissecans, physitis, subchondral cystic lesions were observed alone or together. We concluded that the clinical examination is inadequate and radiographic examinations are necessary for definitive diagnosis of developmental orthopedic diseases and bone lesions that are affecting horses’ future race performance. This study also shows that the blood parameters change during foal’s physical development, but these changes don’t affect developmental orthopedic diseases.Öğe Comparison of computed tomography and thoracic radiography findings for the assessment of pulmonary diseases in dogs(Ankara Üniversitesi, 2016) Boztok Özgermen, Başak; Bumin, AliRadiographic examination is a common method for diagnosis of pulmonary diseases but it is not always adequate for accurate diagnosis. Therefore, an advanced imaging method as computed tomography (CT) was used in this study for veterinary purposes. This study aimed the comparison of the two imaging methods for evaluation of pulmonary diseases in dogs. 20 dogs of various breeds, age and sex with complaints of lung disease made up the materials of the study. Following the patient history and clinical examination, radiographic examination and CT examination were performed and the outcomes were evaluated. Pulmonary nodules/masses or calcified foci in 12 patients, pleural effusion and pneumothorax in 4 patients, pulmonary edema in 2 patients, tracheal collapse and megaesophagus in two patients were diagnosed by using both radiographic and CT examination. As a conclusion, radiographic examination provides an initial diagnosis for severe diseases and can be used as first imaging modality for lung diseases, but CT has superiority over radiography due to its ability to provide cross-sectional images and more accurate diagnosis.Öğe Köpeklerde akciğer hastalıklarının tanısında bilgisayarlı tomografi kullanımı(İstanbul Üniversitesi, 2016) Boztok Özgermen, Başak; Bumin, Aliİnsanlarda Bilgisayarlı Tomografi (BT) bronşial, akciğer ve mediastinal anormalliklerin değerlendirilmesinde kullanılmaktadır. Direkt radyografik muayenenin radyoopak yabancı cisimler dışındaki durumlarda yetersiz kaldığı, bu nedenle ultrasonografik muayenenin mide hastalıklarında diğer tanı yöntemlerini destekleyici ve tamamlayıcı bir görüntüleme yöntemi olarak rutinde kullanılmasının faydalı olacağı sonucuna varılmıştır.Öğe Radiological and ultrasonographical evaluation of lower urinary tract diseases in cats(Ankara Üniversitesi, 2018) Ergin, İrem; Şen, Yusuf; Okan Şenel, Oytun; Başak Özgermen, Deva; Bumin, AliThe aim of this study was to evaluate lower urinary tract diseases of cats with plain radiography, ultrasonography and contrast cystography retrospectively and assess the most appropriate imaging method for each disease. In the study, 134 cats with different age, sex and breed were presented with one or more clinical signs of lower urinary tract diseases (LUTD). All cats were evaluated by radiography and ultrasonography, and contrast radiography had been performed on cats, in which plain radiography and ultrasonography were inadequate for diagnosing LUTD. LUTD included cystitis (n=20), urinary crystals (n=35), urinary crystals with cystitis (n=51), bladder calculi (n=6), bladder polyps (n=8), blood clots (n=9), bladder rupture (n=1) and idiopathic obstructions (n=4). The present study confirms that ultrasonography is an efficient imaging method for examination of lower urinary tract, but radiography and contrast cystography are still useful for diagnosing calculi, bladder ruptures, suspected urethral obstructions, and chronic cystitis which can not be evaluated by ultrasonographyÖğe Thoracoscopic partial pericardiectomy for the treatment of pericardial effusion in dogs(Ankara Üniversitesi Veteriner Fakültesi, 2023) Şen, Yusuf; Bumin, Ali; Okan Şenel, Oytun; Boztok Özgermen, Başak; Haydardedeoğlu, Ali Evren; Başer, Medine İremThoracoscopy is a minimally invasive imaging method used in the imaging of the thoracic cavity. In comparison with thoracotomy, thoracoscopy provides better visualization of even the smallest lesions localized in the thoracic cavity. With the use of thoracoscopy, the operation stress in the patient and tissue trauma are reduced, and operating time is shortened. The aim of this study was to evaluate 20 dogs with severe pericardial effusion, which manifested as severe circulation disorder and respiratory distress. The patients determined with pericardial effusion as a result of radiographic and echocardiographic examinations were applied with partial pericardiectomy to achieve permanent health and it was decided to apply this with the minimally invasive thoracoscopic method. The paraxiphoid-transdiaphragmatic approach was applied to the first ten patients and the intercostal approach to the latter. Applicability of thoracoscopic partial pericardiectomy, advantages compared to open surgery, differences between two approach techniques, disadvantages, complications, and success rates were evaluated. It was concluded that this procedure was a successful procedure for dogs and the transdiaphragmatic approach was more useful. In conclusion, thoracoscopic partial pericardiectomy was determined to be easy to apply and more advantageous than open thoracotomy operations.
