Ramazan; Alaş, AliIn this study, native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (Native-PAGE) and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) were applied to the serum proteins of Leuciscus cephalus, Acanthobrama marmid and Chondrostoma regium (Cyprinidae) fish taken from) the Karakaya Dam (Malatya, Turkey). The electrophoregrams showed that there were similarities and differences in the molecular weight (MW) of the serum proteins among the three species. In the Native-PAGE, the total number of serum protein bands of L. cephalus, A. marmid and C. regium were 5, 8, 7, respectively. In the SDS-PAGE, 13 protein bands were obtained in L. cephalus, 11 in A. marmid and 11 in C. regium. In the electrophoregrams obtained from native-PAGE, the MW of the protein bands were found to be different in the fish species except the 80.3 kD protein band which was detected in the three fish species. In the SDS-PAGE, the protein band of 21.7 kD was observed in the three fish species. Protein bands of 63.4, 52.3 and 49.5 kD were present only in L. cephalus and C. regium. On the other hand, it was seen that other protein bands had similar molecular weights.Öğe Cases of external myiasis caused by diptera (Sarcophaga sp.) on three cyprinid species(Taylor & Francis, 2009) Öktener, Ahmet; Alaş, AliSarcophaga sp. caused external myiases on three cyprinid species caught from Ataturk Dam Lake, Turkey) in July 2006. A total of 130 live dipteran larvae were collected from the body surfaces of Cyprinus carpio L., 1758, Barbus grypus Heckel, 1843, and Capoeta trutta Heckel, 1843. There was 100% infestation of all three species of fish, with a mean intensity of 13.6 for C. carpio, 5.6 for B. grypus, and 4.3 for C. trutta. The myiases were probably accidental infections on stressed and immobilized fishes.Öğe Clavellotis strumosa (Brian, 1906) (Copepoda, Lernaeopodidae), a gill parasite of Pagellus erythrinus Linnaeus, 1758) (Pisces, Sparidae) from the Sea of Marmara(Brill Academic Publishers, 2008) Öktener, Ahmet; Alaş, Ali; Solak, Kemal[Abstract Not Available]Öğe Cymothoid (Crustacea, Isopoda) records on marine fishes (Teleostei and Chondrichthyes) from Turkey(2009) Öktener, Ahmet; Trillès, Jean Paul; Alaş, Ali; Solak, Kemal CemNine teleostean and one chondrichthyan species are identified as new hosts for six cymothoid isopods, Nerocila bivittata (Risso, 1816), Ceratothoa steindachneri Koelbel, 1878, Ceratothoa oestroides (Risso, 1826), Livoneca sinuata Koelbel, 1878, Anilocra physodes L., 1758 and Mothocya taurica (Czerniavsky, 1868). Urea hydrolysis provides simultaneously a pH and CO2 increase, both of which are responsible of CaCO3 production. This study was carried out to determine urea concentrations between 5 and 20 mM on ureolytic mixed culture treating synthetic wastewater. The optimum urea concentration was found as 15 mM for effective calcium removal. This work showed the feasibility of urea-based microbial carbonate precipitation as an alternative Ca2+ removal technology. (C) 2012 The Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry. Ali; Ak, AkifIn this study, alimentary canal contents of 188 tench (Tinca tinca L., 1758) caught from Beyşehir Lake (Turkey) between April 2004 and March 2005 were examined for feeding habits. Phytoplanktonic and zoooplanktonic organisms, insects, detritus (animal and vegetable) and two most common parasites of tench, Ligula intestinalis and Asymphylodora tincae were determined in observed in the alimentary canal of fish. There was a significant difference between the frequency of the existance of Chlorella, Coscinidiscus, Fragilaria, Mougetia, Phytoconis, Pinnularia, Rivularia, Synedra, Ulotrix, Brachionus, Gammarus sp., and Ligula intestinalis among seasons (df=3, P<0.05). Only 6 of these genera (Chaetophora, Coscinidiscus, Phytoconis, Surirella, Synedra, Daphnia) had a significant difference among age classes (df=5, P<0.05). Additionally, it was found that only 5 of the 188 tench (2.66%) were observed to have almost empty alimentary canal. Algae and macrophytes were found to be the most considerable food types in the present study, which is followed by zooplankton and insect larvae. Konu Alanı:Öğe Fish-borne parasitic zoonoses in Turkish waters(2010) Öktener, Ahmet; Yurdakul, Necati; Alaş, Ali; Solak, KemalThe purpose of this study, to give information about zoonosis in freshwater and marine fishes. Three digeneans (Heterophyes heterophyes, Opisthorchis felinus, Centrocestus formosanus), one nematod (Anisakis simplex) and one cestod species (Diphyllobothrium sp.) which have zoonosis character were recorded from 15 host fishes. Anisakis was reported from marine fishes which is heavily consumed by people. Limited number of parasite having zoonosis character have been determined in marine and fresh water fishes in Turkey since 1931. For this reason, advanced studies are necessary about this subject.Öğe Gnathia sp.
