İnsanın duygu ve düşüncelerini ifade etmesi, başkalarıyla iletişim kurması, kültürünü geleceğe taşıması dil aracılığıyla mümkün olmaktadır. Bu nedenle dil öğretimi önem taşımaktadır.Kişi, edindiği sözcüklerle ana dilini kullanmaktadır. Ana dilin doğru, etkili ve güzelkullanımı da kişisel söz varlığının zenginliği ile mümkün olmaktadır. Bu açıdan okulöncesi dönemden itibaren söz varlığını zenginleştirecek çalışmaların yapılması vegerekli materyallerin de bilimsel ölçütler ışığında hazırlanması gerekmektedir. Dilve zihinsel becerilerin gelişiminde kilit rol oynayan söz varlığının kazandırılmasındaTürkçe ders kitaplarının ve öğrenme ortamında kullanılan strateji, yöntem ve tekniklerin rolü büyüktür. Bu çalışmada da eğitim alanında söz varlığını belirlemeyeve geliştirmeye yönelik lisansüstü çalışmaların değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Öğrencilerin söz varlığını belirlemeye yönelik araştırmalar ile ders kitapları üzerineçalışmalar araştırmamızın kapsamına alınmıştır. Araştırma, betimleyici bir çalışmaolup veriler doküman incelemesi yöntemi ile toplanmıştır. İnceleme yapılırken YÖKtez veri tabanı üzerinde “söz varlığı”, “kelime hazinesi”, “kelime serveti”, “sözcükdağarcığı”, “kelime öğretimi”, “sözcük öğretimi” gibi kelime gruplarıyla taramayapılmıştır. Çalışmalar gerekli incelemelerin ardından farklı kategoriler altında toplanıp değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen bulgulara bakıldığında, Türkçe, Türk Dili veEdebiyatı ders kitaplarının büyük bir kısmı öğrencilerin söz varlığını geliştirmeye,yaş ve gelişim seviyelerine uygun olmadığı görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin söz varlığınıbelirlemeye yönelik çalışmaların çoğunda da öğrencilerin sahip olduğu söz varlığı açısından istenilen düzeyin altında olduğu görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin söz varlığınıgeliştirmek için öğretim programlarının, ders kitaplarının tekrardan yapılandırılmasıgerekmektedir. Kelime öğretimine yönelik farklı strateji, yöntem ve tekniklerin kullanılması, kelime hazinesinin gelişmesine katkı sağlayacaktır.Language is the most influential communication means for individuals and for the society. It is possible for an individual to express his/her feelings and thoughts, to communicate with others, and to transfer his/her culture via the language for the future. For this reason, teaching language is important. The person uses his/her mother tongue with the vocabulary s/he has acquired. The correct, effective and good use of the mother tongue is possible with a personal vocabulary. Based on this viewpoint, it is necessary to organize activities to enhance the vocabulary during pre-school years and to prepare the required materials in the light of scientific criteria. The role of Turkish coursebooks and the strategies, methods and techniques employed in learning medium is great in having students acquire vocabulary which plays a key role in language development and mental skills development. In the present study, the purpose is to assess the postgraduate studies conducted for the purpose of determining and developing vocabulary in educational field. Studies on textbooks and investigations to determine the vocabulary of students have been included in our research. The study was a descriptive one, and the data were collected by using the Document Review Technique. When the study was conducted, the HIC thesis database was searched by writing the word groups like “vocabulary”, “words used”, “vocabulary teaching”, and “teaching words”. After the necessary assessments, the studies were collected and evaluated under different categories. According to the findings, it was observed that a great deal of the Turkish coursebooks, Turkish language and literature were not suitable to improve the vocabulary of students, and for their age and developmental levels. In most of the studies conducted previously to determine the vocabulary levels of students, students were found to be below the desired level in terms of the required vocabulary. For the purpose of improving the vocabulary of students, curricula and coursebooks must be re-structured.
