To determine the length of upstream and downstream separation regions, the governing equations solved by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software package, ANSYS, which is based on finite element method. The numerical simulations are carried out using k-epsilon and k-omega turbulence models for different mesh systems. The best mesh system and better turbulence model for flow around a surface mounted circular cylinder are selected by comparing with studies in literature. The numerical result for the separation regions seem to compare well with other studies. To determine the length of the separation regions upstream and downstream of a surface mounted and semi buried elliptical cylinder, same mesh system and turbulence model is used. Numerical results indicated that the length of the separation regions near the downstream of the elliptical cylinder is much smaller than downstream separation region of a circular cylinder....eninfo:eu-repo/semantics/closedAccessSteady CurrentElliptical CylinderSeparation AreaCFDANSYSNumerical investigation of flow around a surface mounted and semi-buried elliptical cylinder in steady currentArticle244575582N/AN/A
